Smith awarded $450,000 grant from National Science Foundation

Jessica M. Smith (LAIS) has been awarded a $450,000 grant from the National Science Foundation’s Cultivating Cultures for Ethical STEM program. The project, “The Ethics of Extraction: Integrating Corporate Social Responsibility into Engineering Education,” will investigate how engineers working in the mining, oil and gas industries understand and practice social responsibility and what role particular undergraduate educational experienced played in preparing them to navigate the social and environmental challenges of their professional practice.

Cath, Williams host Membrane Research Workshop

Tzahi Cath (CEE) and Kim Williams (CH) hosted a Membrane Research Workshop at Mines on Aug. 26 bringing together faculty and groups on campus conducting research focused on membrane separation processes. As many as 25 faculty members discussed the science and applied domains pertinent to their research with the goal of identifying opportunities for collaboration and program development.

Vaughan presents at Colorado Investment & Technology Resources Entrepreneur Series

Will Vaughan, director of technology transfer, gave a presentation at the Aug. 20 Colorado Investment & Technology Resources Entrepreneur Series hosted by the Colorado Center for Renewable Energy Economic Development. Former Secretary of Energy Federico Peña also spoke at the event.
