Emmanuel De Moor, professor of metallurgical and materials engineering at Colorado School of Mines, has been elected a Fellow of ASM International, one of the highest honors bestowed by the professional society for materials scientists and engineers.
De Moor was recognized “for creativity and impact in educating students in metallurgical and materials engineering, and the development of industrially significant steel process and product innovations.”
De Moor was recognized alongside ASM’s 2025 Class of Fellows at the society’s Annual Awards Banquet during IMAT’25, held Oct. 21 in Detroit, Michigan.
De Moor’s research focuses on physical metallurgy and the study of the effect of heat treating on microstructural development and mechanical properties. He joined Mines as a research assistant professor in 2010 and was promoted to tenure-track assistant professor in 2014. He holds a bachelor’s degree in applied science and master’s and doctoral degrees in materials science from Ghent University in Belgium.
Formerly the American Society for Metals, ASM International ( is the world’s largest association of materials-centric engineers and scientists.
