Sumit Agarwal named 2020 AVS Fellow

Fellowship in the professional society recognizes sustained and outstanding technical contributions to the science and technology of materials, interfaces and processing
Sumit Agarwal

Sumit Agarwal, professor of chemical and biological engineering at Colorado School of Mines, has been named a Fellow of AVS, a professional society that focuses on the science and technology of materials, interfaces and processing.

Fellowship recognizes AVS members who have made sustained and outstanding technical contributions throughout their careers to research, engineering, technical advancement, academic education or technical management in the areas of basic science, technology development and commercialization of materials, interfaces and processing.

Agarwal’s research focuses atomic layer processing of materials, surface chemistry, and plasma processing for semiconductor manufacturing, and also on the fabrication of high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon solar cells.

Agarwal, who joined Mines in 2005, holds a PhD from the University of California, Santa Barbara, MS from the University of New Mexico and a bachelor’s degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Varanasi. He conducted his postdoctoral study at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Founded in 1953, AVS is an interdisciplinary professional society that supports networking among academic, industrial, government and consulting professionals in chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, all engineering disciplines, business, and sales, with approximately 4,500 members worldwide.
