Wendy Lea, Steve Fenberg appointed to Mines Board of Trustees

Wendy Lea and Steve Fenberg have been appointed to the Colorado School of Mines Board of Trustees by Colorado Gov. Jared Polis. 

Lea will serve a three-year term on the board through December 2028, fulfilling the term of Trustee Judith Zee Steinberg, who passed away in 2025. Fenberg will serve a four-year term through December 2029. Gov. Polis also reappointed Trustee David Lawler to a second four-year term through December 2029. 

Lea is the co-founder and board chair of Energize Colorado, a Community Development Financial Institution that expands access to capital for underserved entrepreneurs across the state. She serves on the boards of the Center for American Entrepreneurship and Elevate Quantum, and she also founded TechHubNow! in collaboration with the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) to energize technology ecosystems across the state of Colorado.  

A leader-practitioner with over 30 years of experience advising Fortune 500 businesses and entrepreneurial ventures, Lea was named one of the Top 25 Most Powerful Women in Business by the Colorado Women's Chamber of Commerce in 2024. 

Fenberg is the former Colorado Senate President and Senate Majority Leader, representing Colorado Senate District 18 from 2017 through 2024. During his legislative tenure, Fenberg led on various issues but is most known for championing reforms to strengthen Colorado’s democracy, advancing the transition to a more modern and sustainable electricity system, and dramatically increasing Colorado’s funding for public lands, transportation and air quality improvements. 

Before entering the Senate, Fenberg served for a decade as the founding executive director of New Era Colorado, the largest state-based young voter mobilization organization in the country. Fenberg is now an independent consultant on public policy issues, as well as a co-owner of a small cocktail bar, Bread Bar, located in the historic mountain town of Silver Plume.
