Mines Material Advantage named Chapter of Excellence
The Mines chapter has been honored by the organization for 10 consecutive years
Material Advantage, a student professional organization for metallurgical and materials engineering, has named the Colorado School of Mines chapter a Chapter of Excellence for 2022. This is the 10th year in a row that Mines has received either a Chapter of Excellence or Most Outstanding Chapter honor from Material Advantage.
Each year, only five Material Advantage chapters of the 105 worldwide are selected for Chapter of Excellence. The student society provides access to four professional organizations: The American Ceramic Society, Association for Iron & Steel Technology, The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society and The Materials Information Society.
“To my knowledge, there is no other program, in recent history, that has been as successful in Material Advantage as the Mines program,” said Gerald Bourne, assistant department head of metallurgical and materials engineering and one of the Mines chapter’s advisers.
The Mines chapter received its Chapter of Excellence award on Oct. 11 at the Student Awards Ceremony at the Materials Science & Technology Meeting and Exhibition in Pittsburgh.
