Incoming Mines students, President Johnson to whitewash Mt. Zion M Aug. 24

M Climb

GOLDEN, Colo., Aug. 20, 2015 – As is tradition, incoming Colorado School of Mines students will hike up Mt. Zion west of Golden on Aug. 24 hauling a 10-pound rock from their hometown to add to the mountainside monument along with a fresh coat of whitewash. New Mines President Paul Johnson will join the students this year for his inaugural M Climb.

“I’m looking forward to joining the newest members of our Mines community and special guests for this longstanding annual tradition. I have a feeling that afterward we'll be coming down the mountain wearing some of that whitewash and energized to start a great school year,” Johnson said.

This year’s incoming class has set a record for Mines at 31.5 percent women, an 18 percent increase over last year.

Mines again received a high volume of applications (around 12,500) for the 2015-16 academic year and the campus is expecting to welcome approximately 1,015 freshmen and 145 transfer students.
