Students at the Colorado School of Mines are taking on a problem some of the world’s greatest minds have yet to solve. How to manage the growing threat of space debris.

A Colorado professor will advise the highest office in the land on matters of economic importance. Ian Lange has been tapped to serve on the White House Council of Economic Advisors.

The students competing in the event were from the Colorado School of Mines, University of Colorado Boulder and Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Simply put, "a minor allows a student the opportunity to add training in another discipline," explains Tracy Camp, a professor and head of the computer science department at Colorado School of Mines.

Matt Siegfried, now at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, and his colleagues studied snow accumulation at 23 GPS stations in West Antarctica from 2007 to 2017.

Yet the notion of extracting platinum, gold and other valuable minerals from heavenly bodies and propelling them back to Earth is more fiction than science. “The economic analysis doesn’t make sense,” said Angel Abbud-Madrid, director of the Center ....

A favorite campus tradition at this small public college is E-Days (or Engineering Days), which takes place every spring and includes a cardboard boat race in a Colorado river.
