A Colorado School of Mines graduate student and a recent graduate were awarded Fulbright Scholarships for the 2026-27 academic year.
Fulbright Scholars are awarded across disciplines to support academic and professional advancement of passionate and accomplished graduating college seniors, graduate students and young professionals. In partnership with more than 140 countries, participants conduct research, pursue graduate study or teach English abroad.
The Mines awardees are:
- Andrea Corr, PhD student in chemistry, who will be conducting research at the University of Bordeaux in France
- Katherine King ‘25, MS ‘25will be an English teaching assistant in Czech Republic
This is the second year Mines has had more than one Fulbright winner in the same year, said Ashley Weibel, assistant director of undergraduate research and nationally competitive scholarships.
“Andrea and Katherine exemplify both academic excellence and a dedication to cross-cultural exchange. Their Fulbright grants are a testament to their hard work and the rigorous preparation they received at Mines. We are excited to see the positive impact Katherine and Andrea will make in their host countries, both as experts in their respective fields and as ambassadors for the Mines community," Weibel said.
Corr’s Fulbright research will focus on copper-based catalyst systems for biological application. She will work with Didier Astruc at the University of Bordeaux for the 2026-27 academic year.
"Building my Fulbright application was an invaluable experience in both creating a unique research project and communicating that research plan to a diverse audience,” Corr said. “I've strived throughout my career to forge connections that would allow me to travel and work abroad. Prior to starting graduate school, I worked for a company that was based in Japan and was fortunate to get to travel there for a short business trip. I could not be more excited to spend nearly a full year working in Bordeaux. I hope to continue to make connections with the international scientific community that could lead to more international positions in the future."
