GOLDEN, Colo., April 7, 2016 – The Payne Institute for Earth Resources at Colorado School of Mines will host Tom Petrie, chairman of Petrie Partners LLC, as part of its free Distinguished Lecture Series at 4 p.m. on April 14 in room 102 of the CTLM Building, 1650 Arapahoe St.

Petrie will discuss “Shifts in the Geopolitical Landscape and Their Impact on Petroleum Sector Capex Strategies.”

The presentation will identify global drivers emerging post 9/11 that affect upstream petroleum operators. These include changes in Chinese economic growth, emerging power triangles driving the energy strategies of key Eastern Hemisphere nations, and redefinition of the North American security needs given advances in hydrocarbon extraction technology. He will also examine the possible changes in oil and gas trading patterns poised to now unfold.

The Payne Institute for Earth Resources is designed to inform and shape sound public policy related to earth resources, energy and the environment. The institute’s Distinguished Lecture Series brings public speakers from academia, government, the policy domain, and business to the Mines campus to provoke discussion and debate.
