Colorado School of Mines is starting a major in quantitative biosciences and engineering.

“Colorado has gone through the exercise of weatherizing the system. Overall it seems that Colorado has been preparing very well,” said Morgan Bazilian, director of the Payne Institute for Public Policy at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden.

Students will learn about mining materials on other planets that deep space missions can't bring from earth, like enough water.

"One of the big lessons here is gas is treated as a firm resource, but it is not because it relies on just-in-time delivery," said Alex Gilbert, a fellow who studies energy systems at the Colorado School of Mines' Payne Institute for Public Policy.

John Spear, professor of civil and environmental engineering at Colorado School of Mines, is one of the few people to have spent time inside Sulphur Cave.
