Mines announces KGHM Executive Academy Partnership

GOLDEN, Colo., July 2, 2014 – The Office of Special Programs and Continuing Education (SPACE) at Colorado School of Mines is pleased to announce the formulation of the KGHM Executive Academy.

SPACE will host nearly 40 international executives this August in a week-long executive training session specific to mining operations and innovative practices. This will be the first of two executive training sessions delivered by Mines. The group will represent Polish, Canadian, US and Chilean mining operations for KGHM.

Anna Wrobel, Executive Director of Human Capital at KGHM, says “With KGHM projects and operation becoming truly global venture, continuous development and focus on innovation are crucial. We want to make sure that KGHM Leaders are well connected, exchange knowledge and learn from each other as well as from world-renowned experts. A custom-made program such as the KGHM Executive Academy provides access to top notch education and research, but also helps to generate practical business outcomes, build lasting working relationships and strengthen ONE KGHM spirit among our executives. We believe in real long-term ROI of such initiatives.”

“We are confident that Mines can provide industry best practices and critical technical expertise to KGHM, thereby assisting them in achieving their global initiatives,” says Barry Martin, Director of SPACE. “The innovative KGHM Executive Academy was developed using case studies and is very much an applied approach to solving real world problems. We believe Colorado is the perfect backdrop for KGHM executives to learn about various mining techniques given the state’s rich history in mining and the unparalleled academic reputation of Mines in stewarding the earth’s precious energy, mineral and environmental resources.”

Instructing the international cohort will be nine mining industry professionals. Mines faculty members Dr. M. Stephen Enders, Dr. Hugh Miller, Dr. Kadri Dagdelen, Dr. Pat Taylor, and John Stermole are among the instructors.

This unique partnership with KGHM Group is also collaborated upon with Swiss business school IMD. IMD is ranked first in Executive Education by Financial Times and will provide the KGHM Executives business and general management training. The IMD sessions delivered to KGHM are taking place at the IMD campus in Lausanne, Switzerland.
