Colorado School of Mines will welcome 1,774 first-year and transfer students to campus when fall classes begin Aug. 19.

Colorado School of Mines alumni are routinely sought out by and hired into the aerospace industry, despite Mines not offering a dedicated bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering.

Griffiths is a professor of civil and environmental engineering and previously served as associate department head. He began the new role on July 1.

Physics PhD student Drew Marino will be working with the world’s top expert in Superconducting Tunnel Junction detectors.

With the encouragement of an alumni mentor, Catherine Smith ’14 made a career leap from mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering to the oil and gas industry.

“We got to see (the building) go from a sketch on notebook paper to the real thing,” said Lindsey Nenne, one of the team’s construction leaders, who graduated in May with her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

Current Mines student Rowan Welch comes from a long line of Orediggers, spanning 124 years and counting: His father, his uncle, two of his great-grandfathers, his great-great uncle and his great-great-grandfather all earned degrees from Mines

Frick , who has served as department head of Mines Mechanical Engineering since 2021, will start in the new role July 15.
