Mike McGuirk, assistant professor of chemistry, has received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award for research that could contribute to the discovery of new materials for solar energy production, low density conductors and more.
Serena Eley, assistant professor of physics at Colorado School of Mines, has been named a 2022 Cottrell Scholar by the Research Corporation for Science Advancement.
The longtime member of the Mines faculty will work closely with Provost Richard C. Holz to lead and direct MINES@150 strategic and leadership initiatives and serve as a strategic advisor and counsel to academic leadership.
Ivar Reimanis is the new head of the George S. Ansell Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Colorado School of Mines.
George Sowers, a professor in the Space Resources Program at Colorado School of Mines, has been appointed to serve on the Human Exploration and Operations (HEO) Committee of the NASA Advisory Council.
Iris Bahar, who officially joined Mines in January, was honored by IEEE for her “contributions to modeling and design of power-aware and noise-tolerant nanoscale computing systems.”
As Executive Director, Camp will seek to build upon CRA’s existing leadership role in the computing research community and work to help the community pursue bold research visions, practice and advocate for socially responsible computing research.

Gabriela Blanchard, a chemical engineering major, and Mason Weems, a metallurgical and materials engineering major, will each receive a scholarship from the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF), as well as mentorship and professional development opportunities throughout the year.
