Colorado School of Mines welcomed students back to campus Jan. 9 for the start of the Spring 2024 semester.

But that’s not the only thing kicking off this month: 2024 is the 150th anniversary of Colorado School of Mines’ founding as a territorial institution in 1874.

(Fun fact: Mines is actually older than the state of Colorado, which gained statehood in 1876.)

Mines will be celebrating its anniversary year with special events and activities all year long. Among the highlights of the sesquicentennial celebration:

  • Feb. 5-9: Founders Week, capped by the Founders Day Celebration and Grand Opening of the Labriola Innovation Hub on Feb. 9
  • April 4: Grand opening of the Beck Venture Center and Mines Entrepreneurial Showcase
  • April 12-14: 90th Annual Engineering Days
  • May 9-10: Spring 2024 Commencement
  • Aug. 16: M Climb
  • Sept. 26-28: Homecoming
