Snieder named SEG Outstanding Educator for 2016

Interim Department Head for the Department of Geophysics Roel Snieder has been named 2016 Outstanding Educator by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists.
Taylor Jacobs, a PhD candidate in metallurgical and materials engineering, won the award for Best Student Paper at the International Pipeline Conference, held Sept. 26 to 30 in Calgary, Canada.
Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Professor Corby Anderson has been named to the Academy of Engineers of the University of Idaho, where he earned his PhD in mining engineering and metallurgy.
Melissa Anderson '15 and Mining Engineering Graduate Student Sam Lolon were recently selected as part of Young Leaders Committee of SME (Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration).
"The program was very selective and we were so grateful and honored to be the reps from Mines," Lolon said. "We would like to encourage other students to get actively involved in the same or similar programs in their own professional organizations."

Mines’ Division of Economics and Business welcomes Professor Graham Davis back from teaching in Peru at GERENS Graduate School where he was named as the school’s first Honorary Professor. GERENS is a private university in Lima established in 1998 by a group of academics and investors to provide quality graduate education in Peru. Davis accepted this honor from Professor Jesus Armando Gallegos Monteagudo, Director General of GERENS.
Andrew Herring, professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering, has been named a fellow of the American Chemical Society, part of the Class of 2016.
The ACS Fellows Program, created in 2008, recognizes members for outstanding achievements in and contributions to science, the profession, and the society.
