GOLDEN, Colo., March 20, 2015 – At 8:30 p.m. on March 28, the iconic LED-lit M on Mount Zion west of Golden will go dark for one hour as part of an Earth Hour observance at Colorado School of Mines.

“Earth Hour is a movement that seeks to unite people around the world under a common human goal to protect and preserve the only planet known to mankind that is capable of supporting life,” said Arjumand Alvi, a senior majoring in mechanical engineering who is chairman of the Mines Earth Hour committee.

Earth Hour on campus will include a lights-off campaign in the residence halls and Mines Park Apartments, as well as the mountainside M.  Events including glow in the dark capture the flag and ultimate Frisbee, guided stargazing and tealight photography will take place on the Intramural Fields beginning at 8:15 p.m.

Campus groups participating in the event include Residence Life, Blue Key, CSM Astronomy Club, CSM Space Society, Interfraternity Council, Residence Hall Association and Weekends at Mines.
