GOLDEN, Colo., May 26, 2015 – The Golden Buffalo Battalion, hosted by the Colorado School of Mines ROTC, University of Colorado at Boulder and 12 other affiliate schools, was recently selected for the 2014-15 MacArthur Award from among 275 Senior Army ROTC units. This is the second time the Golden Buffalo Battalion has received this award in the past three years.

The award is given to the top schools that demonstrate achievement of the school’s commissioning mission, its cadet’s performance, standing on the command’s National Order of Merit List and Cadet retention rate. Awards are presented by Cadet Command and the Gen. Douglas MacArthur Foundation to schools who recognize the ideals of "duty, honor and country" as advocated by MacArthur.

The following schools received awards:

  • Cadet Command's 1st Brigade: Norwich University
    • The brigade consists of the nation’s six senior military colleges and five of the military junior colleges.
  • Cadet Command's 2nd Brigade: Indiana University of Pennsylvania
    • The brigade consists of 42 senior Army ROTC programs in the northeast.
  • Cadet Command's 3rd Brigade: University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh
    • The brigade consists of 41 senior Army ROTC programs in the Midwest.
  • Cadet Command's 4th Brigade: University of Maryland
    • The brigade consists of 38 senior Army ROTC programs in the mid-Atlantic region.
  • Cadet Command's 5th Brigade: University of Colorado at Boulder (including Mines and affiliates)
    • The brigade includes 36 senior Army ROTC programs in the southwest.
  • Cadet Command's 6th Brigade: University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez
    • The brigade consists of 39 senior Army ROTC programs in the southeastern United States and Puerto Rico.
  • Cadet Command's 7th Brigade: Austin Peay State University
    • The brigade consists of 38 senior Army ROTC programs in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee and Kentucky.
  • Cadet Command's 8th Brigade: University of Hawaii at Manoa
    • The brigade consists of 30 senior Army ROTC programs on the West Coast, as well as Hawaii, Alaska and Guam.
