GOLDEN, Colo., May 1, 2015 – The Colorado Geological Survey (CGS) announced today the release of two new 1:24,000-scale geologic maps: the Whitewater quadrangle in Mesa County and the Cabin Gulch quadrangle in Elbert County. These open-file reports depict the distribution of geologic units and structures on a topographic base map. 

 

These maps provide detailed information on geology, geologic hazard potential, and mineral resource potential. The publication contains information useful to individuals and commercial entities as well as local, state, and federal agencies.

 

Digital copies of the maps and associated GIS data can be downloaded for free from the Colorado Geological Survey bookstore.

 

These mapping projects were funded jointly by the U.S. Geological Survey through the STATEMAP component of the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program, and the Colorado Geological Survey using Severance Tax funds that are supported by taxes paid on the production of natural gas, oil, coal, and metals.
