Golden Bike Library expanding to campus in second season

After a successful first year, the Golden Bike Library has opened its second season with more bikes and plans for satellite stations at the Jefferson County government building and on the Colorado School of Mines campus.

The Golden Bike Library allows residents, visitors, local employees and students to “check out” a bike for a limited time. The program runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, from April through October.

The first two hours are free; for longer rides, the fee is $10 per day with a credit card and valid ID. Riders can return bikes, which are equipped with locks, after hours using a key drop box. The library has a fleet of 60 Jamis bicycles in adult and youth sizes. Riders must sign a waiver and parents must sign for those under 18.

Users can check out bicycles at the Golden Visitors Center, 1010 Washington Ave., or reserve them online at www.goldenbikelibrary.com. Visitors can also access suggested routes, maps and other information at the center and online.

The bike library is operated by the city of Golden, which is finalizing an agreement to put a satellite location at 14th and Illinois streets on campus, between Arthur Lakes Library and Volk Gymnasium.
