Sonneberg selected to receive 2016 Honorary Member of the House Award

Mines researchers awarded during 2015 Society of Exploration Geophysists annual meeting

Mines had additional honorees at the recent 2015 Society of Exploration Geophysists (SEG) annual meeting: Manika Prasad recieves the SEG 2015 Outstanding Educator Award Manika Prasad (PE) received the 2015 Outstanding Educator Award. The award honors individuals for excellence in geophysics education for outstanding contributions in teaching of geophysics classes at any educational level; impact on education programs by commitment to excellence in geophysics education; special dedication to advising, supervising, and mentoring students; and providing extraordinary inspiration to the next generation of geophysics professionals. McCray elected to APLU BOAC

CEE Department Head John McCray was recently elected to the executive committee of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities’ Board on Oceans, Atmosphere, and Climate (BOAC). The board’s mission is to provide federal relations for issues involving university-based programs in marine, atmospheric, and climatological sciences. BOAC representatives are chosen by their president’s office to serve. They include some of the nation's leading research and educational expertise in atmospheric, marine, and climate disciplines. Geophysics faculty honored at 2015 Society of Exploration Geophysists meeting

Ilya Tsvankin received the SEG Honorary Membership Award Several Geophysics faculty were honored at the recent 2015 Society of Exploration Geophysists (SEG) annual meeting in New Orleans: Ilya Tsvankin received the SEG Honorary Membership Award. The award is given to someone who has made distinguished contributions to exploration geophysics or a related field or to the advancement of the profession of exploration geophysics through service to the Society. Dave Hale received the Award for Best Paper in Interpretation magazine. The best paper is recognized for permanent interest, form and readability, and potential for the advancement of the geophysical profession. Terry Young received the SEG Life Membership Award. Brawand receives 2015 Classified Employee of the Year

Mines hosts Association of Intermountain Housing Officers annual resident assistant conference

Mines hosted 267 students and professionals from eight states and a Canadian providence during the Association of Intermountain Housing Officers annual resident assistant conference, RAppin, Oct. 16-18. The event caters to residence life student staff members who can discuss their campuses, programs and initiatives, and learn from other institutions through programming sessions. The Colorado School of Mines Foundation recently hosted its annual Evening of Excellence to celebrate the generous donors and supporters of the university. University award recipients included Men’s Soccer Head Coach Frank Kohlenstein, who received the Faculty and Staff Philanthropy Award; and University Emeritus Professor David Matlock, who received the Brown Medal. Mines wins Material Advantage Most Outstanding Chapter Award

Colorado School of Mines has won the Material Advantage Most Outstanding Chapter Award for the second straight year. Gerald Bourne and Kip Findley are the chapter advisors. Chapters are judged on programming, career development, service, social activities, and chapter management. The Material Advantage program provides undergraduate and graduate students in materials science and engineering programs with memberships to four organizations at a lower cost: The American Ceramic Society, Association for Iron & Steel Technology, ASM International, and The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society.
