Assistant professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering Department
Areas of Expertise:
Dr. Higgins’ research focuses on the fate, transport, and bioaccumulation of organic and inorganic emerging contaminants in aquatic and terrestrial systems. For example, he is examining the potential for bioaccumulation of organic contaminants (including pharmaceuticals, personal care products, and perfluorochemicals) into foodcrops from reclaimed water. He is also examining the transport of perfluorochemicals in groundwater from fire-training sites and the potential for bioaccumulation of perfluorochemicals and nanoparticles from biosolids-amended soils.
